Our Focus: • Our focus is on supporting positive change for people with or at risk of having brain-health needs related to aging and dementia, mental health and neurological conditions by fostering knowledge transfer and exchange (KTE) among researchers, people with lived experience, policy makers and practitioners who seek to work together to improve quality of life and services (move knowledge into action).
How do we do it? • We focus on the sharing of resources and knowledge (both provincially and nationally) through in-person and virtual exchange in order to support relationships among industry, researchers, clinicians, policy makers, people with lived experience, and care partners. • Using our network (www. brain. Xchange. ca) we bring together the best and brightest to: ~ Support the learning needs of people wanting to change practice ~ Facilitate quick and easy access to the best knowledge for continuous quality improvement ~ Stimulate, support and share innovations ~ Build and strengthen collaborative partnerships between stakeholders ~ Foster links between stakeholders to create new knowledge and understanding
Who are our members? • • • Researchers Educators Care partners (paid and non-paid) Policy makers / government Providers (registered and non-registered) People with lived experience (inc. persons diagnosed, family members etc. )
Knowledge Exchange and Transfer What is Knowledge Exchange? • “Mutual sharing of research and data knowledge (i. e. explicit knowledge) and/or of practice and experience based knowledge (i. e. tacit knowledge) for the purpose of improving practice…” What is Knowledge Transfer? • “Process of moving knowledge into practice. This process is successful when research and practice-based evidence is clear and relevant, the context shares the characteristics of a learning organization, and facilitation mechanisms are appropriate to the needs of the community of practice members. ” Source: Lusk E. and Harris M. (2010, April 29). Knowledge Transfer and Exchange (KTE) in Action. Presentation companion document for the SHRTN Collaborative 2010 Annual Assembly Knowledge Exchange Learning Day, Toronto, ON.
