JESUS TEACHES ABOUT HIS KINGDOM DID THE KINGDOM
JESUS TEACHES ABOUT HIS KINGDOM
DID THE KINGDOM OF GOD BURN THIS WEEK? • People all around the world mourned the fire at Notre Dame and the priceless art work and centuries of work going into its building. A question is asked, “How does this affect the kingdom of God? ” • “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things” (Acts 17: 24 -25).
AN AMAZING IMAGE • One of the most moving pictures I have ever seen was looking inside the burned out portion of Notre Dame and seeing only one major thing left. In the middle of the destruction stood a gold cross. • When this world is dissolved the only thing remaining will not even be a literal cross but the one who died on that “old rugged cross” for our sins.
A DAY IS COMING WHEN ALL THE EARTH WILL BE BURNED BUT THE KINGDOM WILL STAND • “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up…” (2 Peter 3: 10) • All the stadiums, churches, cathedrals, homes, art work, and treasurers of men will be dissolved.
Key Passages: Luke 9 -10 • Jesus teaches about His upcoming death • He is preaching the kingdom of God which would be ushered in after His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension • Key verses: (Luke 9: 2, 6, 11, 27, 35, 44, 55, 56, 60, 62; 10: 1 -11).
KEY POINTS ABOUT THE KINGDOM • Authority directly from God (Lk. 9: 35) • Preaching the gospel is preaching the kingdom (Lk. 9: 2, 6, 11) • Preaching the gospel taught the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, and His kingdom which was ready to be established (Lk. 9: 22 -27). • John and Colossians in Kingdom (Col. 1: 13; Rev. 1: 9) • We are in kingdom (Heb. 12: 28; Rev. 1: 5).
• The kingdom requires putting God first (Lk. 9: 6062) Repentance required • The key to heaven is being in Christ and in His kingdom (Lk. 10: 20; Gal. 3: 26 -27) • Judgement for those rejecting the kingdom (Lk. 10: 12 -16)
FACTS ABOUT THE KINGDOM OF GOD • Jesus says “My kingdom is not of this world…” (John 18: 36) • The kingdom is built upon Jesus and the fact He is the Son of God (1 Cor. 3: 11; Matthew 16: 13 -18) • The kingdom of God is the church. The church/kingdom is made up of those who allow the rule of heaven to be in their heart and lives (Luke 17: 21) • The church began on Pentecost (Daniel 2: 44; Acts 2: 1 -47). The church is the kingdom which shall have no end.
• The resurrection of Jesus is the proof of the power of God seen in His kingdom (1 Cor. 15: 1 -4; 20 -22; Acts 4: 10; Acts 17: 28 -31).
What about you? • Are you in the kingdom? • How did you get in the kingdom? • Are you a faithful servant in the kingdom? • “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen. ” (1 Timothy 1: 17).
