Jesus’ Statements From the Cross ØJesus’ death, burial and resurrection are what makes NT Christianity possible (Heb. 9: 15) ØIf Jesus had not been raised from the dead, then all of us today would be without hope (1 Cor. 15: 12 -19) ØHe loved us so much that He was willing to die for us, as Paul wrote (Rom. 5: 7 -11) ØHe was raised up just as He said He would be (John 3: 14)
1 st Statement ØAnd when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand the other on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. 2 nd Statement ØWhen Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" 3 rd Statement ØThen one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. " 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong. " 42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom. " 43 And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise. " (Luke 23: 39 -43) Ø Cf. Jesus’ Statements From the Cross ØWhile Jesus’ death is on the cross is tragic, it is also something that we can rejoice over: ØIt demonstrates the love of God. ØOur salvation would not be possible without it. ØBe thankful for what Jesus did for you and me. ØBe encouraged to live a faithful life until the day you die!
