Jesus is TEMPTED in the desert….
What will you give up or do extra for Lent?
What happened to Jesus after his baptism? He was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit.
The wilderness was a desert – bare, rocky and dry. Nobody lived there but wild animals. Jesus was alone there for 40 days and 40 nights, with no food or water.
Satan appeared to tempt Jesus. He knew he must be very hungry. If you really are the son of God you need not go hungry. Turn these stones into loaves of bread. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Satan tried to tempt Jesus a second time. He led him high above the city of Jerusalem. If you really are the son of God, throw yourself down. God will command his angels to catch you. Scripture says “You are not to put the Lord your God to the test”.
Satan tried to tempt Jesus a third time on top of a mountain. I will give you all that you can see. All you must do is kneel at my feet and worship me. Away with you, Satan. It is written “You shall worship the Lord your God and Him alone.
Satan went away and Jesus was left in peace. God sent his angels to look after him and strengthen him after his test.
LO; I can think of ways in which we can resist the temptation to do things that are wrong. Read the following questions and write down your answers. 1. Your teacher leaves the room for 5 minutes. There are no other adults. She asks you to carry on with your work. You don’t have to be silent, but the classroom needs to be quiet enough for you to concentrate. How would you react and why? 2. Which temptation do you think it would have been hardest for Jesus to say no to and why? 3. ‘I wonder why…Jesus didn’t just say yes to the devil. ’ 4. Your friend tells you they really want the new Xbox game but they haven’t saved up enough pocket money. They tell you they are going to steal it from their cousin as ‘they have loads of games and don’t play it anyway. ’ You know that this is not the right choice, but what do you say to them to encourage them to resist the temptation to take something that does not belong to them?
