Jesus became a human so that He could
• Jesus became a human so that He could die (Heb. 2: 9) • Jesus “tasted” the most bitter experience of death (2: 9) • Jesus was humiliated (12: 2) and rejected (13: 12) • Jesus “endured” it all—the cross, the shame and the hostility (12: 2 -3)
• Jesus made the choice to be sacrificed (Heb. 9: 26; 10: 12) • Jesus offered up Himself (7: 27; 9: 14, 25, 28; 10: 10, 12, 14) • Jesus offered His own blood (9: 12; 10: 19; 13: 12) • Jesus sacrificed Himself in our behalf, in our place (2: 9) • Jesus sacrificed Himself vicariously for our sins (7: 27; 9: 7, 28; 10: 12)
• Jesus suffered death and sacrificed His own blood for us, so that: − Our sins could be “purged” (Heb. 1: 3) − Our sins could be “put away” (9: 26) − Our sins could be “taken away” (10: 4) − Our sins would be remembered “no more” (8: 12; 10: 17) − He could be the “propitiation” for our sins (2: 17) • Jesus is “able to save to the uttermost” (7: 25) • Jesus gives us access to “so great a salvation” (2: 3) • Jesus destroyed the devil and the power of death due to sin (2: 14 -15)
• Jesus is our “merciful and faithful High Priest” (Heb. 2: 17) • Jesus, as our High Priest, is able to “sympathize with our weaknesses” (4: 15) • Jesus, as our High Priest, is “able to aid” us when we’re tempted (2: 18) • Jesus, as our High Priest, “always lives to make intercession” for us (7: 25) • Jesus, as our High Priest, “appears in the presence of God for us” (9: 24) • Jesus, as our High Priest, gives us direct access to God (4: 16; 7: 19; 10: 22)
• Jesus “will appear a second time” (Heb. 9: 28; 10: 37) • “Judgment” will take place (9: 27) and all will “give account” (4: 13) • Those who give up, “draw back” (10: 39) and turn back to “sin”: − God “has no pleasure” in them (10: 38) − Have a “certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation” (10: 27) − Shall not “enter His rest” (3: 18 -19) but enter “destruction” (10: 39) • Those who “endure” (10: 36), “eagerly wait for Him” (9: 28) and “diligently seek Him” (11: 6): − “Receive the promise” of the “great reward” in “heaven” (10: 34 -36) − Follow Jesus and “enter…behind the veil” to dwell with God (6: 19 -20) − “Enter the rest” (4: 1 -9) of the eternal salvation of the soul (9: 28; 10: 36; 5: 9)
