Jesus and Forgiveness Aim: To know Jesus’ teachings on forgiveness and to understand how this affects Christians today.

What is Forgiveness? Talk to someone in your house about what you think forgiveness means. You can write your thoughts in the thought bubbles below.

Forgiveness in the Lord’s Prayer ‘And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. ’ What this means is that you are asking God to forgive you for any bad things you might have done and are asking God for help to forgive others who might have done something wrong to you. Think about a time when you have upset someone, or someone has upset you, was it easy to forgive them? Did they forgive you if you did something wrong? Forgiveness can be difficult.

Forgiveness is Free Christians believe that you don’t have to anything to earn forgiveness. God will forgive Christians however bad we are. However, when you are asking someone to forgive you for something you have done, it is good to say sorry. Christians believe that once God forgives you it is a permanent forgiveness.

Forgiving Others Christians believe that it is right to try and forgive others. Christians will try to forgive those who hurt them in any way. At times it is very difficult for Christians to forgive others.

Task Think again about that time when you had to ask forgiveness. Describe why you had to ask forgiveness, who did you have to ask, why did you have to ask them? How did it make you feel? You are then going to create a forgiveness scene. You can draw or create a picture of when you had to say sorry and show the reaction of the other person. Draw thought bubbles like we did at the start to show each person is feeling about forgiveness.
