Jericho Accountability Model The Accountability Model underpins Jericho
Jericho Accountability Model The Accountability Model underpins Jericho programmes. Actions are guided by and accountable to communities of influence – real people (eg. employees, colleagues, customers) alongside experts. It provides continual insight, learning & feedback and escapes the usual echo chambers. This approach democratises voice & opinion in addressing key business, brand behavioural issues. Actions speak louder than words. Businesses currently operate in a context which sees networks over hierarchies; chaos over control; activism over bureaucracy; data over understanding; and emotion over evidence… and not always in a good way. The Accountability Model is designed to help organisations understand their biggest issues through the lens of “wise crowds”; assess progress towards a common goal; and be accountable to stakeholders – both internally and externally. Its principles are: • Accountability before measurement • A constant process and conversation • Incorporating multiple views including dissenting voices • Designed to plan subsequent action, and shape “proper” engagement with stakeholders and society “Trustworthiness” is a constant metric – based on Honesty; Competence; Reliability; and Benevolence. 02 01 A research based tool The model reverseengineers the standard research questionnaire, by allowing stakeholders to identify key issues; set the agenda; and assess performance versus promises. Analysis to ensure accountability • • The analysis of data identifies themes and real issues an organisation faces - plus the relative importance of, and how well, the organisation is addressing each issue. The gap between importance and performance highlights where future actions should be focussed. This also supports an Accountability Score, which acts as a benchmark against which future performance is assessed. Leaders become accountable to their organisations. Activism Participation Accountability Dissent 04 Collecting the data; Assembling the crowd; Accountability as constant The data is drawn from a wise crowd of relevant stakeholders. The model is based on capturing meaningful responses and therefore data collection must encourage expression of ideas, not simply ticking boxes. Data collection is methodologyagnostic and can dovetail with existing mechanisms (e. g. employee surveys) where available. The model is replicable, and while appreciating that issues don’t necessarily move overnight, only through regular engagement can organisations be actively accountable. 03 A dynamic and actionable model Over time, if the key themes change, the model adjusts accordingly. To remain accountable, actions (and by implication leadership) must evolve. The model provides diagnostic evidence as to how – without restriction – core themes should be addressed. From this flow component parts of a plan that is codified into specific actions. Some of these actions will be long-term – possibly generational – while others can be more quickly deployed.
