Practice Guidelines Parents: Athletes: ◦ Welcome to watch practice from the balcony. ◦ Be at EVERY practice ON TIME If you have to miss be sure to have your parents email the coaches well in advance, or bring a note. ◦ Follow coaches instructions at all times. ◦ Take care of your pool equipment and your facility Respect every pool we play at, the facility, the players, the coaches, and the parents. ◦ 100% focus on the coaches when they are talking ◦ 100% effort ◦ Warm up as a team, Stretch as a team, Play as a team ◦ Everyone helps set up each day and clean up after practice JENISON PRIDE

Practices Are mandatory. If you are late due to school (ie. test, help on material, etc. ) you must bring a pass and give it to one of the coaches. Find JH Water Polo ◦ Please check this daily. *NEW THIS YEAR* PRACTICE SCHEDULE Usually: ◦ 3: 15 -4: 45 p. m. – JH girls ◦ 4: 45 -6: 15 p. m. – JH boys and Age group Occasionally 3: 15 -5: 00 p. m. – All JH 4: 00 -5: 00 p. m. – Age group ◦ Monday through Thursday, March 16 through May 16 ◦ *No practice or tournaments April 6 -11 (JPS Spring Break)

Excused & Unexcused Practices Excused: School related (retaking a test, getting help from a teacher) – must bring a note to practice signed by the teacher Medical Sick/appointment – must bring a note back to practice from parent/doctor ◦ Please reschedule appointments if possible Family weddings/funerals – must be given advance notice (if possible) Excused Practices will affect playing time if what was missed was pertinent to the objectives of the current game. ◦ This is not a punishment, but the way a team works when trying to meet a common goal. Try not to miss practice. Unexcused: Anything other than the above (slide) needs to be discussed with Nicole or Alex. ◦ We are only a club sport in the eyes of the JH, but in order to develop team spirit, ownership in what we are trying to do, and develop into the best water polo players we can be in a short amount of time, we hope that our athletes will be at every practice. If your child has other commitments please let us know well in advance.

Playing Time Junior High: All 7 th and 8 th grade players will receive playing time in every game we play. The time will not be equal, but all players will see the water. ◦ We were able to field four teams this year: JH Boys JH Girls Green JH Girls White Co-ed 6 th and Under

Spectator Sportsmanship Let the coaches coach, the players play, and the officials officiate. We always have young, inexperienced refs, but they are doing the best they can! ◦ Let the coaches worry about the officials! The Sport is very difficult to learn, take time to google water polo and read as much about it as you can. Otherwise you will be frustrated with all the whistles and not know what is going on. TAKE TIME TO EDUCATE YOURSELF! Support the athletes and stay positive, even at the hardest times. That’s when it’s needed most! Thank you for being “Jenison. ”

Transportation We will travel to games as a team on a bus. We realize that there may be special circumstances, please let us know ahead of time. ◦ All buses are drop off only We must have transportation waiver. You must have the proper paper work on file to allow your athlete to ride home with someone else. When applicable we want our teams to watch and cheer for each other! When there is too much of a gap we will release the kids. Pick up will always be in front of pool lobby.

Team Uniform JH team shirts are always the green JENISON WATER POLO tshirt. We encourage all athletes to get the shirt, but also hope all the parents will, as well. ◦ Always nice to look in the stands and see our parents sitting together wearing their green shirts proudly! Team suits and shirts at the JH level are the same each year. As soon as suits are in they will be distributed. Please do not ask if they are in. Fridays – Wear your team t-shirt!
