Adams • Very bitter campaign (personal attacks) • Result: Jefferson ties Aaron Burr who was his Vice President candidate • Election goes to House of Representatives and they decide Jefferson wins • First time power changed from one party to another (It was a success!) • 12 th Amendment: Ratified to elect President and Vice President separately
