Software Developers & Project Managers Responsible for annual budgets in excess of $10 Million Support over 100 mission critical business applications (Quick Demo) Married, with 4 kids and boat load of grand kids
Successful Work Place “Tips and Tricks” 01. Find a Need and Fill It (*Secret Formula) 02. Just OK is not OK FIND A NEED 03. It’s not that difficult to rise above 04. Go above and beyond the basic requirements 05. Always strive to delight the customer FILL IT! 06. Good things happen to those that “hustle” while they wait 07. Make eye contact with the person you are engaging in conversation. 08. Do what you say and say what you mean 09. If you make a mistake OWN IT, don’t deflect 10. Always assume your boss has no clue what you are doing. 11. Give it your best try, even if your heart is not into it (your next job may depend on it) 12. Don’t burn bridges (you never know how that can help or hurt you) 13. Always. Be. Honest (even if it hurts – your reputation is on the line) 14. Good deeds, when done enough times, will NOT go unnoticed (they might go unrewarded, but not unnoticed) 15. Be confident in your delivery but also be humble 16. Work is not 9 -5 (often times it is late nights, weekends and when you most often want to be somewhere else) 17. Be a good peer (that will pay dividends in the long run – you never know when you will need someone’s help) 18. Your light will not shine brighter by dimming someone else’s. 19. Being a team player is so underrated 20. Integrity is “Doing what is right, even when no one is looking” (You represent the company, decisions need to align) AND
Successful Work Place - Tips and Tricks (Part II) 21. Don’t be a “job hopper” (too many jobs with short durations is a red flag *6 -18 months ideally) 22. Never jump unless you have a place to jump to (the easiest time to find a job is when you have one) 23. Be Positive as much as possible no matter the situation 24. Your Attitude is Infectious and it will rub off on those around you (both positive and negative). 25. Use tools provided to Update Your Progress – Your supervisor will thank you 26. Be Dependable (Show up on time, be the person that can be counted on) 27. Make yourself Irreplaceable (By providing so much value they will never want to let you go) 28. Seek advice and direction from Subject Matter Experts (Nothing wrong with asking questions) 29. Dress and Keep your appearance Professional (Dress for Success) 30. Social Media/Phone Usage (Right time and place) 31. Find your niche (what do you like to do and what are you good at? Capitalize on that!) 32. Lead Others (For established employees only) but a very good trait/skill to have 33. Follow Through and Follow Up (Communications is king!) Don’t keep people in the dark 34. Treat every task as “Important” even though some seem menial – They all add up! 35. Don’t Lean In – Your future self will thank you 36. Never ask “which one you want me to do first” – The answer is all of them 37. Problems are “Opportunities” in disguise. Take advantage of them and turn a negative into a positive 38. Be open to New and different ideas. There is always multiple paths to a solution, openly listen to others ideas 39. Don’t be afraid to fail fast. business’s have learned that out of failure and trying, innovation occurs 40. Always be learning - most companies provide ongoing training and even pay due certifications.
Successful Work Place - Tips and Tricks (Part III) 41. Don’t be the last in and first out. People notice that, reputations are forged based on that. 42. Don’t be a “Clock Watcher” can’t wait to hit the door. If you find yourself in that mode your day will be miserable 43. Keep yourself busy and the DAY WILL FLY BY! 44. Be selective on where you choose to work, as you will spend most of your waking hours there. 45. Do you like to be outdoors, don’t pick an inside job. *Hint, don’t be a job jumper 46. Always look to take on MORE responsibility not LESS. The person who avoids taking on more responsibility = gone 47. Much is given to those that are deserving” Show that you are dependable, accountable and work hard 48. Always be accessible. If you are stepping away, let your supervisor know. Out of sight/Out of mind 49. If your supervisor reaches out to you, respond as soon as possible (Communication is King!) 50. Keep your priorities straight. Work on the most important items first – not the easiest ones 51. Always provide progress. Remember, especially early on in your assignment as many unknowns 52. Great ideas are nothing unless they are acted on. There a lot of smart people out there with great ideas. . But 53. Take pride in your work always, people will notice.
