Jean Piaget and his Stages of Development Piaget believed that children think differently than adults and stated they go through 4 universal stages of cognitive development. Development is biologically based and changes as the child matures. Cognition therefore develops in all children in the same sequence of stages. Some may just never reach the later stages.
Abraham Maslow Hierarchy of Needs
The Basics Maslow attempted to graphically characterize psychological health with his Hierarchy of Needs. This is a very rudimentary explanation of the state of humanity. Essentially it was sick vs. normal. According to Maslow's idea you cannot move up on the pyramid until your lower level need is met. You will go up and down on this pyramid throughout your life. It is not static.
The Hierarchy of Needs Healthy Neurotic Psychotic The mark of a healthy person is to stand up against the group based on your perceptions.
*-The First four steps are normal *-The first four steps deal with a deficiency motivation *-The last one. . . actually two deal with a growth motivation
There a few disagreements about this theory.

Erik Erickson Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development
Erikson is greatly influenced by Sigmund Freud He believed that culture and society and their conflicts can play a large part in who you are. He believed this was "ego" driven. (the conscious self. ) Your ego develops as you resolve these conflicts. Failing to resolve the conflicts at a particular stage will cause you to have an unhealthy personality and/or sense of self. http: //www. simplypsychology. org/Erik-Erikson. html
