JCI Mission “To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. ” • This mission is accomplished though the action and results of the members at the Local Organizations. • It is at the local level and only at the local level where the Mission is accomplished. The Organization’s Purpose • Every organization – small or large – must have a well-defined purpose, where it wants to go and how it plans to get there. • A clear purpose brings everyone together and provides guidance over the long haul. • An organization’s purpose must exist on every level within the organization. The Three Levels International level: JCI has a vision and mission for the entire organization. Region Level: National and State organizations determine regional priorities consistent with the JCI vision and mission. Jaycees History • Founded in 1920 by Henry Giessenbier in St. Louis, Missouri • 1920 s-1980 s: – National: Get Out the Vote, U. S. Air Mail Service, National Wildlife Federation – Local: Junior Miss, Holiday Parades, Jaycee Cottage • 1980 s-Today: – National: Merger of Jaycees and Jaycettes (1984), UNICEF, Nothing but Nets – Local: NC Jaycee Burn Center, Duke Cancer Center, HOBY JCI Skills Development: JCI Achieve
Active Citizens • Members are the brand of the organization. • Members act according to the JCI Values. • Members are active citizens looking for solutions to create positive change. JCI Skills Development: JCI Achieve
