January 2011 18 -11 -0007 -00 -0000 802. 18 RR-TAG ITU-R Update • ITU-R WP 1 A is developing a report on “SMART GRID POWER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS” • The plan is to complete the report at the WP 1 A meeting which begins May 25 th • As it currently exists the report is unbalanced – it supports PLT/PLC as the only technology suitable for Smart Grid communications • An earlier version had some wireless in it but said that any wireless solution is inferior to PLT/PLC Submission Michael Lynch, MJ Lynch & Associates

November 2010 18 -11 -0007 -00 -0000 802. 18 RR-TAG ITU-R Update • The good news is that at their last 2010 meeting WP 1 A removed the section saying that wireless is inferior to PLT/PLC • The bad news is there isn’t any description of any wireless technologies suitable for Smart Grid communications • 802. 18 is proposing that the wireless WGs edit the document to provide positive input on the capabilities of wireless technologies • This work should start at this meeting and must be completed by the end of the March plenary Submission Michael Lynch, MJ Lynch & Associates
