January 17, 2007 Doc: IEEE 802. 15 -07 -0571 -00 -0 ban What Is the Issue For SG Title It is not clear what kind of restriction will subject to SG-BAN with the label of ‘medical’. n Operating frequency bands? n Restriction on applications? n Distinguish SG-BAN with others? When a device is labeled with medical, usually it subjects to more strict regulation than non-medical. Slide Li and Kohno, NICT

January 17, 2007 Doc: IEEE 802. 15 -07 -0571 -00 -0 ban Suggested SG Title n From the discussion on PAR and 5 C, members in the group are looking at applications of both medical and non-medical BAN. n BAN distinguishes itself from other 802. 15 groups in many aspects including SAR conscious, channel models, real-time and high Qo. S, etc. n To avoid uncertainty and keep things as simple as they are, the suggested title is Wireless BAN (WBAN) Slide Li and Kohno, NICT

January 17, 2007 Doc: IEEE 802. 15 -07 -0571 -00 -0 ban Conclusion Remarks n Medical related is an important category of applications for SG-BAN. However, a large number of SG members also have strong interest for non-medical applications. n Uncertainty is introduced with the use of the label ‘medical’, SG-BAN needs to consider to delete it or not. n Discussions on future works of SG-BAN including road map and time table are recommended.
