Requested Specifications • Communication required in all of Jackson County • Radios permanently mounted in buses • Base station radios in all schools and attendance centers • 3 Portables for Transportation Maintenance
Advantages of Using Jackson County Radio System • Countywide interoperable communications • Ability to directly contact emergency services • Buses are able to talk to each school • Schools can talk to each other • EOC communication for hurricane evacuation • EOC managed/maintained infrastructure and licenses
Proposed Mobile Solution Utilizing Jackson County Radio System • Motorola XTL 1500 Mobile Radios for each bus • Motorola MTX 8250 Portables for Transportation Maintenance – IMPRES batteries and chargers • Base stations for each school • EOC and Sheriff's dispatch talkgroups • Extended warranty options available
XTS 1500 Mobile Advantages/Disadvantages Compared to Portables • Advantage – More transmit power – Software upgradable features – No batteries/chargers to maintain – Permanently mounted – Louder than portables • Disadvantage – – Increased initial costs Installation costs Can’t relocate easily Prone to vandalism when left overnight in buses – Higher maintenance costs
MTX 8250 Portable Advantages/Disadvantages Compared to Mobiles • Advantage – Lower purchase costs – No installation costs – Lower maintenance costs – Can be moved where needed • Disadvantage – Battery powered – Recurring battery costs – Easier to forget/misplace – Non upgradable
