J-1 Student Internship Program This program is only available to foreign students currently enrolled and pursuing a degree at a postsecondary academic institution outside the United States, whose U. S. internship will "fulfill the educational objectives for his or her current degree program at his or her home institution. " Student interns may participate in a student internship program for up to 12 months for each foreign degree/major.

DS-2019 Processing Time ISSS may take 5 -7 days to complete the processing of the Form DS-2019 once ISSS receives a complete application. The department should submit a complete application to ISSS no later than two months prior to the requested J-1 Program Start Date. Be prepared that it may take your incoming J-1 applicant 2 to 6 weeks to obtain a US Visa Stamp if s/he undergoes Administrative Processing / a Security Check.

J-1 Applicant must email the scanned test score to Maureen De Lio in Temple University's Graduate School at maureen. delio@temple. edu Applicant must indicate that s/he is a J-1 Scholar Applicant in the Subject line of the email. 3. TU Graduate School will verify score and forward the scanned test score to ISSS.

Evaluations from both the J-1 Student Intern and the Faculty Mentor are required at

Evaluations from both the J-1 Student Intern and the Faculty Mentor are required at the Midpoint and the End of the Internship. Evaluations must be submitted in ISD and the Department must email ISSS once the evaluations are uploaded. If the J Student Internship Program is Six Months or Less, only Student and Faculty Mentor Final Evaluations are Required. If Internship is longer than six months, both the Midpoint and Final Evaluations are Required from the J Student and the Faculty Mentor.

DS-2019 Processing Once ISSS has a complete application, we will process a Form DS-2019 as well as a Form DS-7002 through SEVIS. We will send both Forms to the J-1 Student Intern using the UPS airway bill that your department has provided. The J-1 Student Intern will use both Forms to apply for a J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa Stamp from a US Embassy Abroad. The J-1 Student Intern must notify both ISSS and the Postdoctoral Affairs Office of expected arrival in order to schedule Orientations with Sharon and Nina.

12 Month Bar on Returning as a J Research Scholar or Professor The 12 month bar applies to a J Student Intern who remains in the US for more than 6 months and wishes to return to the US as a J-1 Research Scholar or Professor. Examples: • Student Intern from 12/1/16 to 11/30/17 cannot return to US as a J-1 Research Scholar or Professor until 12/1/18. • Student Intern from 12/1/16 to 5/31/17 can return to the US as a J-1 Research Scholar or Professor upon completion of academic degree.
