Accuracy vs. Fluency n If accuracy is a weakness- Look deeper to find out which phonics skills the student has not mastered n If fluency is a weakness- Determine how to work on increasing the student’s reading rate n If both are issues- Focus on accuracy firstthen, lower the text level for fluency work
Plan to Instruct – During Reading Block n n n n n Identify Benchmark Students and set them aside Determine which Indicator to Use Rank Order Intervention Students Form a group among the lowest students Form a group among the highest students Place remaining students in a group Look for students who need practice with an Excluded skill Look for any Benchmark students who may have been missed Find any exceptionally High students.
