The Love of Christ Controls Us

What is broken? ● When we don’t share the gospel with people, one of two things is true: ○ We don’t love God enough ○ We don’t love people enough ● Both possibilities mean the same thing: We don’t really love God ● 1 John 4: 19 -20 “We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, ‘I love God, ’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. ’”

What changed? 2 Corinthians 5: 13 -21 Love of Christ ● Founded on the gospel truth ○ Death was defeated in Jesus’s resurrection and that changed Paul’s life forever ● Romans 8: 18 -25 ○ ○ Sufferings no longer mattered (v. 18) The entire creation has waited for this gospel (v. 22) We eagerly await our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies We hope with patience

What changed? 2 Corinthians 5: 13 -21 See People as More than Flesh ● Paul had once regarded Jesus as flesh ○ When he regarded Jesus as flesh, he was hostile toward him ○ After his conversion, he became such a zealous worker for the Lord, people thought he was crazy (2 Cor 5: 13; Acts 26: 24) ● The old has passed away, the new has come ○ We live among 68, 000+ eternal beings in Bowling Green alone ○ God wants every last one of them to be His (2 Peter 3: 8 -9)

What changed? 2 Corinthians 5: 13 -21 We Are Ambassadors for Christ ● The ministry of reconciliation ○ God, through Christ, reconciled us to Himself ○ God was reconciling the world to Himself ○ The world can be exonerated ● WE are ambassadors for Christ ○ WE carry the ministry of reconciliation ○ WE carry the appeal of God ○ WE impolore others to be reconciled on behalf of Christ

A Purpose of Local Church Growth of Body 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Acts 8 4 Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.

Will we work together for growth of this body? Do we realize the power of the gospel?
