CITIES The most important cities in Italy are: - Milan: It is the largest city in Northern Italy, famous for the stock exchange, for fashion and for the many monuments, including the Duomo Cathedral. It is the most industrialized city of Italy. Venice: It is an important city of art, unique in the world for its canals and some important monuments such San Marco. It is a UNESCO World Heritage. Rome: It is the capital city of Italy, famous for it’s ancient historic center and its monuments: Coliseum, Trevi Fountain and St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican. The city is also the Pope's home. Florence: It’s the main city of art in Italy. In the Renaissance Age it was the most important city because Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Giotto, Raffaello. . . worked in. The most important monuments are the Uffizi Gallery, Santa Maria del Fiore church and the David. 2
PIEDMONT Our region is called Piedmont (Pied = Foot ; Mont = Mountain), because we are sorrounded by mountains. It's located in North-West of Italy, bordering France. Piedmont is the second largest region of Italy, by extension, after Sicily. The territory is mainly mountainous and it's crossed by the river Po, the longest in Italy. It's divided into 8 provinces…… 3

The most important monuments in Turin are: the Egyptian Museum, considered among the largest in the world and second only to the de Cairo…. . Royal Palace, great example of seventeenth-century architecture in Piazza Castello, in the heart of the historic city center. The National Museum of Cinema in Turin, housed in the Mole Antonelliana, the symbol of Turin…… ………… and many others!!!! 6

HISTORY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL A. BROFFERIO n Our school was founded by Senator Giovanni Penna. He was born June 25, 1855 from a modest family and Giobert Institute after graduating, he became assistant engineer in the office headed by Hannibal Cavazza. Later he married Ida Cassanello. Also did the commissioner and city councilor. He also won numerous awards agriculture. He became senator of the Kingdom in 1938. He died in Rome on 25 January 1941. He made many works in favor of his city. n. Principle in our school was an orphanage for boys (named Vittorio Alfieri). Had cost € 900, 000 and was financed by John Penna. The project was instead of the surveyor Benzi. Venne inaugurated by Secretary Charles E. Rossoni in 1932. Over the decades the school has changed many times and has become, after the latest changes, a middle school, or our school today A. Brofferio. 12
