ITALIAN DIASPORA An expression that is used to describe the massive migration of Italians. It appears to time with approximately the beginning of the Unification 1 of Italy in 1861. The Italian economic miracle during the 1960 s seemed to bring an end to the mass exodus. Seen as the largest migration of contemporary times nearly 25 million Italians Migrated. 1. The Unification of Italy was the joining of all of Italy’s state into one unified state ending some of the unrest that was happening in Italy during the 1800 s.
HOW THEY CAME TO NEW ZEALAND The Italians had taken a boat to New Zealand as it was the middle of nowhere and there was no planes back then and it took months to get to New Zealand on boat. There was mainly men here as the women stayed in Italy while the men get enough money to build a house and bring their wife over as kids just stayed in Italy until the second war happened then people started to bring over their kids.
WHAT THEY FACED When Italians came here the only language they knew was the Italian language that they knew and they did not know what work was a head of them and what they would do in New Zealand.
THINGS THEY BROUGHT WITH THEM The Italians brought their pizza and pasta and lots more food with them and their wine and music like most places would have and their religion. The Italians also brought over their music and famous works of art.
