STudents with an iep* *IEP: Individualized Education Plan Alternative Criteria: If a student has an IEP due to a cognitive disability, the team of administrators, teachers and parents must show evidence that the student is fluent in English, but unable to meet the regular criteria due to the disability. 13
STudents with an iep This alternate consideration of possible EL reclassification is appropriate when students: ❑ have been receiving academic instruction in English for at least five years ❑ have plateaued or decreased in ELPAC scores for three years ❑ are thought to have low performance in English/Language Arts due to their disability rather than due to language acquisition differences. 14
Steps: STudents with an iep 1. Parent consent must be given 1. An assessment plan for EL reclassification consideration must be signed by the parent. 1. Student must be assessed with an academic assessment aligned with the ELPAC. 1. The IEP Team must hold a meeting for Consideration of EL Reclassification. 15
