Introduction • IT is growing in its application almost in an exponential mode • Besides the increase in the complexity and processing power the size is shrinking and price is sharply decreasing, making the system affordable and easily transportable. • The rapid expansion of bandwidth and fast improvement in connectivity are governed by Gilder & Metcalf’s Law respectively. • 4 th law of technology • A strategy for dynamic development of curriculum to enable the youth entering industry to face this chaotic growth.

Three laws of Technology The chaotic state of growth in this technology has been often explained through working together of three laws of Technology, namely, • Moore’s Law • Gilder’s Law • Metcalfe’s Laws.

1 st Law of Technology 1. Moore’s Law (Gordon Moore of INTEL) “The processing power of microchip doubles every 18 months (2 years)” – Price halves for the same level of computing power.

Closely resembling human neuron connection. • Personal intelligence likely grow with availability of vast knowledge through internet. • Embedded systems will expand availability of entertainment media at any place & time on demand. • Industrial & business processes automation will also significantly expand embedded intelligence and connectivity.

4 th Law-Our Creation “Technologists and scientists are encouraged to spend just 10 percent extra resources and time in planning and envisaging the end result which should lead to efficient, economically affordable and green eco-friendly technology. Ethics & value systems are more important in the current global scenario than a few extra gold coins”.

How to Face This Technological Convergence? • Areas to Safeguard - Fast obsolescence with fast development - Security Vs Privacy - Value System (ethics) Vs Competition - Challenges of Chaotic development Vs opportunity for creating better planet “Our Planet Earth is like proverbial Golden Goose which provides all of us golden Eggs in the form of resources. In this environment of competition, fast development & greed, let us remember value systems to keep nurturing the goose to share the gifts. ” 10% extra efforts/resources can help to innovate green technology. Let us do that. ”

Futurist: Points to Ponder • When looking at future, the “What” is more predictable than “When” and “How” will always feel different than predicted. Thomas Frey (Futurist) • The every house in 2010 will have 100 computers embedded in all kinds of appliances and amenities and mostly networked to each other and to the web. Glen Heimstra • Talking Computers will replace written languages by 2050 William Crossman • The age of reason has ended and now we must organize around chaos. Watts Wacker

Conclusion • In this presentation a procedure has been suggested to develop curriculum to meet the challenges of rapid development & fast obsolescence. Lessons have been derived from the three laws of technology, chaotic growth with attractors. A 4 th law on Ethics has been formulated. • It is believed that this strategy will help student community to better face the impact of rapid development of technology as well as fast obsolescence.
