A revolution is a mass movement that aims to establish a new political regime by violently transforming the existing government. The Islamic Revolution started since January 7, 1978 to February 11, 1979 in Iran. The Islamic Revolution in Iran was the most significant event of the last half of the 20 th century. It was a popular uprising in Iran in 1978– 79 that resulted in the falling of the monarchy on April 1, 1979, and led to the establishment of an Islamic republic.
Events before revolution: - Before the Revolution, Iran was ruled by The Shah. - Shah was the mornachy of Iran. - Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was the Shah before the revolution. - During 1970 s the gap between Iran’s rich and poor grew.
What happened in 1979? - Khomeini was able to overthrow the Shah of Iran - He declared Iran as a Islamic republic. - He became the 'Supreme leader' of Iran. - A group of Iranian students attacked the U. S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 American hostages.
Possible causes of the revolution: - Disagreement with the Shah’s rule - Exile of Ayatollah Khomeini - Social Injustice - Western Imperialism - Religious motives
Effects: - Iran was not excepted from all of the western countries, including the US. - Women's rights were reduced. - The monarchy was destroyed and religious leaders took long term control of the country. - Islamic Sharia law became the new court system.
Revolution: - The king didn’t success ruling country - Religion leader wants to be in the place of the king - The leader of religion “Ruhollah Khomeini” - The main slogan “Independence, Freedom, and Islamic Republic” and “Neither the East, Nor the West, but the Islamic republic”
Revolution: - Population would like to have Islamic state - Thousand of rebellian died - U. S embassy was captured by Islamic rebellion and arrested hostages. They kept the hostages for over two years. - The king was supported by U. S. A such as military and economy
Revolution: - March 31, 1979 Iran established Islamic state.
AFTER THE REVOLUTION
WOMEN - Women can work, but it doesn’t make them hinder their duty of maternity. - Their first duty is to parent their children and serve their husbands. Besides, their job preferences are restricted as well as other part of their existence. - They can work in education and health system but they can’t work as the head of state and in judicial system.
