God With Us

BACKGROUND 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23“BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL, ” which translated means, “GOD WITH US. ” (Matthew 1: 22 -23)

E M M A N U E L Jesus is not a distant aloof inaccessible God! Emmanuel is heaven’s assurance that no one who knows and trusts Jesus will ever be without His presence.

JESUS-EMMANUEL Is The Believer’s: Forever Present Always Engaged Infinite in Understanding Limitless in Power Boundless in Love Gracious to Save GOD!

Hebrews 4: 15 -16 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Romans 8: 38 -39 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The very name offers a fundamentalassurance in any life circumstance. No matter what is happening, God is still sovereign and will meet theneeds of His people.

The “God-with-us” promise is meant to turn into frightened confident people

Moses’ Confidence: “Who am I, that I should go…? ” And God said, “I will be with you. ” (Exodus 3: 12 -14)

It’s totally inappropriate to refer to God as ‘was’ or ‘will be’. He is the Great Always Is, the Always Alert & Active One.

Joshua’s Confidence: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. ” (Joshua 1: 9)

Our Confidence: The mark of distinction! Unique among all people!

Exodus 33: 12 -15 Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people!’ But Yourself have not let me know whom You will send with me. Moreover, You have said, ‘I have known you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight. ’

…consider too, that this nation is Your people. ” And He said, “My presence shall go [with you], and I will give you rest. ” Then he said to Him, "If Your presence does not go [with us], do not lead us up from here. ”

Our Unique Commission: 19“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. ” (Matthew 28: 19 -20)

The Mark of Distinction for us… Through the indwelling Holy Spirit God is with His people personally, constantly, and forever.

John 14: 16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; ”

JESUS COMFORTS! Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU, ” (Hebrews 13: 5)

JESUS CHALLENGES! He is God with us to change us and make us “more than conquerors. ” (Romans 8: 37)

As Emmanuel, Jesus has brought God within hugging distance! And He has hugged back!
