Isabel Allende - Isabel was born in Lima, Peru on August 2 nd, 1942 - After parents divorce, Allende moves to Santiago, Chile to live with her grandmother until 1973. - As a child, Allende was inspired by her grandmother's house- She read all the books available in the home and was also enamored with her grandmother’s interest in fortune telling and astrology. - 1973, Allende’s uncle Salvador Allende was assassinated due to a military coup. Allende and her husband fled to Venezuela. - In 1982, in hiding, she wrote her first novel, The House of the Spirits, which was internationally popular. - Following, Allende wrote Of Love and Shadows, Eva Luna, and Paula, all of which received high international praise. - Allende known for her feminist themes and magical realism. - Her stories often center around the blend of love and struggle which is perfectly encapsulated in her collection of short stories, The Stories of Eva Luna, written in 1989.
