Scientific Discoveries Three Laws of Motion: 1) The velocity of a body remains constant unless an external force acts upon the body. 2) The acceleration of a body is parallel and directly proportional to the net force and inversely proportional to the mass. 3) The mutual forces of action and reaction between two bodies are equal, opposite and collinear. He used these laws to show the planets revolve around the sun in an orbit that is oval and not round. Gravity – Isaac Newton is famous for his apple incident where an apple from a tree had fallen to the ground. He was curious about what pulled the apple down to the ground and not up to the sky. Through his experiments and studies, he discovered the earth possessed a force called gravity that pulled objects to the core. This led him to discover gravity is what keeps the moon in earth’s orbit and the earth in the sun’s orbit.
Continued. . . Vertical Spectrum - Isaac Newton discovered that light is composed of several different colors by shining a beam white light through a prism. It refracted the light and shone a spectrum on the other end. Isaac turned the spectrum back into white light using a lens and another prism. Newton’s Theory of Color - Proved color as the result of objects interacting with light that was already colored instead of objects producing color themselves. First Practical Reflecting Telescope – He built this in order to help prove that white light was composed of several different colors.
Contribution to Science - Created several ideas that dramatically advanced science by influencing our modern day’s connection with science. - His principles he found are the reason for many studies conducted today to better understand our world. He opened many new possibilities and opportunities for all humans in the scientific world. - Albert Einstein’s view of Isaac Newton: he is regarded in the scientific community to be the single most important and influential mathematician and theoretical as well as experiment physicist of all time. - This shows Isaac Newton largely influenced other great scientists. Scientists improved upon or used Isaac Newton’s work to further discover information about our universe.
Other Information - Isaac Newton was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist and theologian. - Used scientific information from the bible to predict the world to end no earlier than 2060. - In 1690, Isaac Newton fell ill with a nervous breakdown caused by prolonged years of work and enduring excess levels of stress. He recovered shortly after treatment and returned to his love of studying the Bible. - Also known as the Father of Physics. - Desired to excel in school in order to take revenge on a school bully. - Isaac did not handle criticism well and was secretly a religious heretic, explaining why he kept many discoveries to himself to avoid charges of heresy from the church.
