“Is the amount of time a student spends on social networks related to the amount of time that they spend doing homework/studying? ”
• The purpose of this study is to find out if the amount of time a student spends on Social Networks related to the amount of time they spend doing homework/studying.
• Our first quantitative variable is the number of hours a student spends on Social Network weekly. The unit of measurement for this variable is hours. A few possible values for this variable are 1, 5 and 10. • Our second quantitative variable is the number of hours a student spends on studying/homework weekly. The unit of measurement for this variable is hours. A few possible values for this variable are 1, 5 and 10.
• To answer this research question, we gathered our data as follows: we obtained a total of 40 completed questionnaires from Salt Lake Community College at the Redwood Campus and randomly chose students to take a short 2 question survey. In order to ensure the students are chosen randomly, we gathered from different areas of the campus
The Questionnaire: • How many hours do you spend on social networking every week? • How many hours do you spend doing homework every week?

Regression Result • Dependent Variable: # of Hours spent Studying/Homework Independent Variable: # of Hours spent on Social Networks # of Hours spent Studying/Homework = 9. 482948 + 0. 38479912 x # of Hours on Social Networks Sample size: 40 R (correlation coefficient) = 0. 4323 R-sq = 0. 18692051 Estimate of error standard deviation: 8. 87475
Linear Regression [2
Positive Correlation • The correlation coefficient is greater than the critical value; we can conclude that there is a positive correlation between our variables. • However, is there really? Do students who spend more time social networking spend more time on studying and homework? There may have been bias.
