Verbal Irony You say the opposite of what you mean. Ex: You get into a wreck and the passenger says, “You’re a great driver!”
Situational Irony A situation ends in the opposite way of what is expected Ex: A lifeguard is saved from drowning.
Dramatic Irony The audience knows something that the characters do not. Ex: In a horror movie, the terrified boy runs to hide in the closet…and the audience just saw the bad guy is hiding in the closet!
