Impact on artwork • The arrival of the Le Tène Celts to Ireland had a huge impact on the artwork produced in Ireland. • The Le Tène style of decoration shows the influence of the contact of the Le Tène Celts with the Mediterranean and the east including Greece.
Definition of the Le Tène style • A varied and repetitive decorative style. The La Tène style is the first example of representational art in Ireland. There are many motifs based on natural forms such as honeysuckle and flowing tendrils of organic forms. These create a semi-abstract, curvilinear style known as the Waldalgesheim style.

The Loughnashade Trumpet
This trumpet, found in co. Armagh, originally probably had a second part to it. This would have created an Sshaped bend in the trumpet.
Technique • The trumpet has a long slender tube which is made of a sheet of BRONZE. • This artefact is a great example of RIVETING. The seam on the tube is fastened by more than 600 of them. • There is a decorated flange (a projected rim) which is decorated in a La Téne design which was applied using répousse.
Decoration • The flanged rim displays a symmetrical design, unusual in La Téne decoration. • The répousse technique results in high-relief curvilinear designs. • Raised bosses are attached to the ends of the organic motifs.
