Introduction ●What are the approved program standards? ○ The program standards approved by the Iowa Department of Education are: ■ National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Program Standards and Accreditation Criteria; ■ Head Start Program Performance Standards; and, ■ Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards and Criteria

Other Important Information ●What are the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards? ○ There are 10 Program Standards, adapted from NAEYC, which support the implementation of quality programming in early childhood classrooms. ●How many criteria are there and where can the complete IQPPS be located? ○ The 132 criteria can be downloaded from the Early Childhood Standards webpage. ●How do the current criteria compare with the original IQPPS? ○ See IQPPS Crosswalk Compare

Continuous Improvement ●It is the district’s responsibility to ensure maintenance of implementation of program standards and criteria adopted. ○ The district must ensure that all classrooms, including community partners, maintain implementation of program standards and criteria. ●In addition, all classrooms should be involved in continuous improvement related to program standards and criteria. ●New resources will be made available on the Iowa Department of Education Early Childhood Standards webpage.

Required Criteria Required criteria are the hallmarks of a high quality program. ●Address the health and safety of children and provide continuous support for meaningful learning ● 21 required criteria are embedded within the 10 program standards It is the responsibility of districts to ensure ALL required criteria are always addressed and demonstrated. ●All indicators for each required criteria must be addressed and demonstrated.
