Inversion Formation • To make a question using inversion: 1. Locate the verb of your question � Regarder 2. Write the verb, in the right form, followed by a hyphen � Regardez- 3. Locate the subject of your question � Vous 4. Write the subject after the hyphen � Regardez-vous

Inversion Annoyances • If you want to use a name in your question, it has to come before the verb. ▫ Valérie est-elle en classe? ▫ Simone et Paulette étudient-elles? ▫ Moi et Claire sommes-nous intelligentes?

Inversion Annoyances • If the subject starts with a vowel (il, elle, & on ONLY), you need to insert a t between the verb and subject to preserve the sound IF there is not already a t sound in the verb. ▫ Parle-t-elle espagnol? ▫ Etudie-t-il l’anglais? ▫ Fait-il attention en classe? �There is already a t sound at the end of the verb ▫ Joue-t-elle au foot?

Inversion Annoyances • Any question words (quand, pourquoi, etc. ) come at the very front of the question. ▫ ▫ Pourquoi étudies-tu la biologie? Quand regardent-ils la télé? Avec qui danse-t-elle? Combien d’argent avons-nous?
