Introductory Rites (Gathering) Created for Grade 10 students, adaptation from their Student Text “Christ and Culture” Rachel Mc. Namara
Gathering • We come together from various walks tasks to worship • We celebrate that we are one because of what God has done in Christ Jesus • Ask ourselves – How can we make people feel welcome? – How can we encourage them to welcome one another? – How can we help them to be aware of God’s presence as the one who gathers us together?
Opening Song and Entrance Procession • Opening Song – Leads our thoughts to what we are celebrating • Entrance Procession – Involve all those with a special role in the liturgy – Special objects (e. g. cross and candles) are carried in – Helps set the tone for the celebration – Visible reminder that coming together in one place is part of our worship
Sign of the Cross/Amen • All Christian worship is done in the Sign of the Cross
Greeting • Takes one of several forms, each reminded that God is with us and always will be • Penitential Rite and the Lord Have Mercy or the Sprinkling Rite – Seeks reconciliation with one another and with God – Name our sins and ask for prayers of those around us – Sprinkling Rite: reminder of our baptismal call
Gloria • Ancient Christian hymn of praise and thanksgiving
Opening Prayer Silence/Amen • “collect” or gathering prayer • This prayer gathers these concerns and presents them to the Father through Jesus’ name in the Holy Spirit
