Introductory remarks Felix Sefkow Collaboration Meeting Daegu Korea
Introductory remarks Felix Sefkow Collaboration Meeting Daegu, Korea, February 19 -20, 2009 Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009
Thank you ! • To our host, Kyungpook National University • And to “the organizer” Donghee Kim and his team • For the efficient preparation and the warm welcome! Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 2
Thank you ! Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 3
A few words on… MC • This meeting • Test beam 2009 • Upcoming events • New territories Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 4
A packed agenda MC • ~ 50 participants • The convenors had a hard time to accommodate all requests for presentations – thanks for solving this! • Speakers, please stick to the allocated times - they include the discussions! Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 5
Analysis MC • A wealth of data from CERN and Fermilab – rich potential • Analysis proceeding from first round – Detector understanding, basic response and resolution studies • towards the core of our original goals – Shower model tests, combined ECAL+HCAL analyses, substructure • Geant 4 representative invited to our next analysis meeting • We are continuously being encouraged by our critics – and by our friends – to increase our publication output – Shouldn’t always wait for ultimate performance Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 6
Upcoming prototypes • The US DHCAL physics (and technical) prototype MC – RPC planes and electronics to be integrated into CALICE set-up at FNAL later this year • The EUDET ECAL silicon tungsten technical prototype – with embedded second generation electronics started technical tests and is getting ready for beam in 2010 • The European SDHCAL (physics and) technical prototypes – proceed on a similar timeline, first results from beam tests with smaller set-ups already reported • The EUDET AHCAL technical prototype – is preparing first small unit tests this year and preparing for more, different optical readout schemes possible Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 7
Test beam 2009 MC • Continue the scintillator ECAL + HCAL test beam at FNAL with improved equipment • Running period April 29 - May 27, 2009 – With some extension possible • Start preparing DHCAL integration • Both European GRPC and micromegas groups requested several weeks of beam time at CERN PS and SPS – m 2 modules • Reports in sub-detector sessions Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 8
Software • From previous prototype experience we know that software MC development enters a more intensive stage once full-size moules start being tested • For the various DHCAL efforts, this is 2009 • Get together, review present status and future needs • Review suitability of our frameworks and tools • Goal of the test beam experiments is to demonstrate technologies and develop reconstruction algorithms for PFLOW • Committed to serve the PFLOW based concepts Si. D and ILD – LCIO was made or that • Resources will remain limited • Let’s continue to share tasks and avoid duplication Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 9
Technical board meetings MC • Today: software • In May, at Fermilab – DHCAL readiness: integration and schedule – Schedule of upcoming prototypes and technical possibilities for individual and combined beam tests • In autumn, at next collaboration meeting – CALICE future test beam plans Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 10
Upcoming events MC • March 12 -17: TIPP 09: 4 talks and 3 posters from CALICE • March 30 -31 at DESY: Combined – CALICE/EUDET electronics and DAQ – CALICE analysis meeting • April 17 -21: Asian LC workshop TILC 09 at Tsukuba • April 22 -36: Chinese calorimeter school at Beijing • • • – http: //www. hep. tsinghua. edu. cn/Cal. School 2009 Sep 29 -Oct 3: American ALCPG 09 at Albuquerque Fall: CALICE collaboration meeting Fall: EUDET annual meeting October 12 -16: CLIC 09 November 2 -6: Linear Collider test beam workshop at LAL, Orsay Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 11
Extended horizons MC • At CLIC 08 Mark Thomson reported first encouraging results on particle flow performance for high energy jets – See also my LCWS 09 summary and Rolf’s remarks there • Yet, leakage is an issue - as for dual readout – and the calorimeter needs to be deeper • Engineering discussions on large coils and tungsten structures started, and simulation work • ILC calorimeters already addressing key issues – High granularity and compactness • To be continued within CALICE Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 12
Enjoy the meeting! Introiduction Felix Sefkow Daegu, Korea, 19. February 2009 13
