Introduction to System z Operating System – z/OS Foundation of mainframe environment Ø z/Architecture (Hardware) An IBM architecture for mainframe computers and peripherals. The System z family of servers uses the z/Architecture. z 800(2066) z 890(2086) z 900(2064) z 990(2084) z 9(2094) z 10(2097) It is the successor to the S/390 and 9672 family of servers. Ø z/OS (System z Operating System) The backbone of the z/OS system is the MVS Basic Control Program (BCP) with JES 2 or JES 3. These provide the essential services that make z/OS the system of choice when you need to process your workloads reliably, securely, with complete data integrity and without interruption. 10/15/2021 © Copyright IBM Corp. , 2008.
