What do we do? We provide § opportunities for work related learning and skills development § support for innovation and developing business ideas We work with students, recent graduates, researchers and staff to help them § plan, manage and make decisions about their career § find opportunities that suit their needs and wants § understand, develop and pitch their skills We expect people to § be curious and take ownership for their career development 60+ experienced, trained and qualified staff

Careers Services support for PGRs Careers Consultation 1 -to-1 careers guidance is available to all postgraduate research students via face-to-face, phone, email or Skype to discuss any aspect of career planning, options and applications. CV/Application Drop In Drop in session to get advice on a draft CV , Linked. In profiles, application forms etc. No need to book in advance. PGR Careers Workshops PGR students can access a range of careers workshops including Effective Academic Applications, MBTI, CVs and Covering letters and Preparing for Interviews through the Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme. Events Additional events are scheduled throughout the year including employer and alumni events for postgraduate research students, and careers service events open to all students. PGR students also have access to university-wide careers programmes and may be interested in employer presentations, skills sessions.

Action For Impact • • • An innovation and enterprise programme for postgraduate researchers aimed at creating impact of all kinds from research Encouraging researchers to evolve their innovative and enterprising behaviours, whilst developing commercial awareness Allows researchers to consider challenges that they are addressing, and become capable of realising the commercial, economic and societal impact of their research The realisation of their impact is facilitated by a series of competitive Impact Fellowships, which will include engagement with industry, society and the world outside ‘the lab’ To highlight the impact of work by our researchers and to provide a platform to award our Impact Fellowships – for further information email jenny. brady@ncl. ac. uk Look out for dates for the next programme

Career Guidance appointments. You can arrange a confidential and impartial one-to-one discussion to explore any aspect of your career planning. Whether you want to stay in academia, explore other options in research, consider using your expertise in other ways, or are thinking of an entirely new direction, taking time out to explore your ideas is invaluable.
