Cosmological observations tell us the Standard Model of Particle Physics explains about 5% of the energy present in the universe. WHAT ABOUT THE REST ? (Hidden Sectors) 15/06/2018 EN-MME-EDS Extended Section Meeting #9
THE SHi. P EXPERIMENT Cosmological observations tell us the Standard Model of Particle The SHi. P experiment is a about new fixed 5% targetof facility the SPS (north experimental search for Physics explains theat energy present in area) the touniverse. Courtesy of Marco Calviani (EN-STI) and the SHi. P Collaboration hidden particles as predicted by a lot of models of Hidden Sectors. These models can accommodate dark matter, neutrino mass and oscillations, and the origin of the full baryon asymmetry in the Universe. Moreover, the facility is ideally suited to study the interactions of tau neutrinos. Link to SHi. P Technical Proposal Beam Dump Facility Proton beam from SPS 40 meters 10 meters The SHi. P detector will consist of two 40 m long evacuated decay volumes, each of which is followed by a 10 m magnetic spectrometer, a calorimeter and muon detectors. An emulsion target surrounded by a magnetic field (BDF) is located upstream of the decay volumes. 15/06/2018 EN-MME-EDS Extended Section Meeting #9
THE SHi. P EXPERIMENT The SHi. P experiment will be built next to the North Experimental Area in the CERN Prévessin site. SHi. P & BDF Approx. 2 km You are here 15/06/2018 EN-MME-EDS Extended Section Meeting #9
