Electronic Spreadsheet An application you use to perform numeric calculations and to analyze and present numeric data. We will be working with Excel, but there are other programs such as Quatro-Pro.
Worksheet The electronic spreadsheet you work in.
Workbook This is the file that the worksheet is contained in.
Name Box Displays the active cell address. Name Box
Formula Bar Allows you to enter or edit data in the worksheet. Formula Bar
Columns Are labeled alphabetically and can contain a total of 16, 384 columns Columns
Row Labeled numerically and can contain a total of 1, 048, 576 rows Row
Cell The intersection of a column and a row; can contain text, numbers, formulas, or a combination of all three Cell
Active Cell The cell in which you are working. The cell is outlined. Active Cell
Sheet Tab Are locatedbelow the worksheet grid and let you switch from sheet to sheet in a workbook. By default, workbook file contains three worksheets, but you can have as many as 255. Sheet Tab
Scroll Bar use these to move around in a document that is too large to fit on the screen at once. Scroll Bars
Range selection of two or more cells such as B 5: B 14; you select a range when you want to perform an action on a group of cells at once, such as moving them or formatting them Range
Function A built-in formula; includes the arguments as well as cell references and other unique information Function
