Remote. Rig – What is it? Developed especially for the remote control of amateur transceivers via local area network (LAN) or the internet in a user friendly & cost effective way. Remote. Rig Website: http: //www. remoterig. com Allows radio front panel & main radio to run separately and connect via IP. Hardware uses an embedded micro running a flavour of Linux Can do multiple modes – FM, SSB, CW, RTTY & Digital Modes. Access to the Remote. Rig device via ethernet, wifi or USB. Configuration available by web interface or Windows program. Can be used without a PC or laptop.

Remote. Rig – Reasons for using it? Antenna covenants at home QTH. Home QTH too small for antennas (Eg: Apartment or Retirement Village). Too much QRM at home QTH. Unable to setup all band HF/VHF/UHF radio in vehicle. Take on holidays. Operate all bands 160 M – 70 CM including WARC.

Selectable codecs for low & high audio quality. Can connect to more than one remote station if using same equipment. Stored profiles make changing easy. Remote. Rig – Suitable Transceivers Control Panel method Icom 706/703/R 2500/IC 2820 & ID-E 880. (Not IC 7000) Kenwood TS 480, TS 2000 & TMD 710. Yaesu FT 857/8800 & 8900. Alinco DX-SR 8 Electraft & Yaesu Twins: Electraft K 3/0/10/100. Yaesu FT 45/950/2000/5000 & 9000. PC Remote Control method. Most transceivers with a CI-V (Icom), Yaesu CAT or Kenwood. Control Panel & PC Remote Control method can be used together.

Remote. Rig – Computer Networking Web based configuration. Making changes is a breeze. Use of profiles to easily switch. Just remember to keep settings the same at both ends. Can be used on an internal LAN quite easily. Fixed IP for radio end to locate it on the LAN. Taking it outside the internal LAN creates more work and needs more testing & troubleshooting. Radio end requires a publicly visible IP. Remote can use either public or private IP. Can be used on ADSL, hotel wifi, 3 G/4 G mobile network. Use of dynamic DNS and Remote. Remote. Rig – Computer Networking Select codecs on based network speeds & download quotas. Codec g. 711 a. Law (Quality 0) uses approx 75 MB per hour up & down. Codec IMA ADPCM 4 bit uses approx 42 MB per hour up & down. Adjust some port forward & firewall rules on radio side. Suggest using wifi on radio side to reduce damage impact by lightning strikes or static discharge. All modems are not created equal.
