INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR - Definition • OB : a field of study that investigates the impacts that individuals, groups and structure have on behavior within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organizational effectiveness • Systematic study on behavior • Behavior is not random, generally predictable : rules • Related behavior disciplines : psychology, social psychology, anthropology and political science • Contingency variables/situational factors, example : leadership style • Very few cause-and-effect relationships : people are complex • Criteria of effectiveness : quality, production (quantity demanded), efficiency (input/output), satisfaction, adaptation, development
