Overview Ø The View tab in Microsoft Word 2007 lets you view your document in different layouts and settings Ø The View tab has the following groups: Ø Document Views Ø Show/ Hide Ø Zoom Ø Window and Ø Macros Ø Lets take a look at these one at a time. Today we will be using a Project Management Plan from a fictitious company
Document Views Group Ø In the Document Views group, you can use the following: Ø Print Layout Ø Full Screen Reading Ø Web Layout Ø Outline and Ø Draft view Ø This group can also be accessed from the Toolbar located on the right bottom of your screen
Show/Hide Group Ø Using this group, you can turn on options like the Ruler, Gridlines, Document Map and Thumbnails Ø The Ruler displays on the left and top sides of your document and uses inches as measurement Ø If you are working with pictures or images in Microsoft Word 2007, the Gridlines can be a beneficial feature Ø Using the Document Map, you can navigate through the structure of your document Ø Working with thumbnails, the pages in your
Zoom Group Ø The Zoom group in Microsoft Word gives you a finer control over the document view Ø Zoom command will allow to use specific value for the zoom Ø You can also use the Zoom Toolbar in the bottom right corner Ø 100% option switches the view back to 100% Ø One Page and Two Page options let you see the document in a different view Ø Finally the Page width command will expand the article to match the Window width
Window group – View Tab Ø The next group is the Window group in Microsoft Word 2007 View tab Ø This group essentially lets you work on the same document utilizing multiple views and windows Ø With the New Window option, it will open a new window containing the same file Ø Split does not open up a new window. It just splits the current document into two parts within the same window
Window group – Continued Ø Every now and then it is necessary to view the copies of same file side by side Ø This can be handy when you are comparing possibly two sections that are related. I can easily do this by viewing the project plan side by side Ø For Example I have a “Discussion of Critical Path” in my table of contents and then I have more information in the detailed section of my document Ø At the end I can use the Reset Window Position to go back to my original settings
Switch Windows/Macros Ø The last option under the Window group is the Switch Windows option Ø This will let you toggle between the two copies of the same document that you maybe working on at the same time. Ø Macros are useful in re-enabling a certain order of tasks that you may perform commonly Ø For example, if you add a title, heading, your name and date to almost every file that you put together, it makes sense to add these steps to a Macro and then run it every time you start a new document
