The World Wide Web • The Internet is a structure made up of millions of interconnected computers whose users can communicate with each other and share information. • Computers that are linked together form a network. • The World-wide web organizes the Internet’s vast resources to give you easy access to information.
• A Web server is the computer that stores the Web page that users access. • The Web browser is the software program that accesses the Web document and displays its contents on the user’s computer.
• HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. • A markup language is a language used to describe the content and format of documents. • HTML allows web authors to create documents that can be displayed across different operating system
• Chances are…HTML will continue to be the dominant language of the web and will be around for a long time. • Programs like Front. Page and Dream. Weaver are useful for templates and simple web pages. When you use these programs, HTML is done in the background by the program.

Assignments from the Text: Creating Web Pages with HTML • • All assignments must be completed in order. Make sure everything is labeled with your name, date, period and assignment name. Read pages 1. 03 -1. 11, if necessary, take notes while you read. Respond to the seven (7) questions on page 1. 11. Type your responses and submit to your instructor! Read and follow the directions on pages 1. 11 -1. 36. When instructed to do so, be sure to open the document from your Web browser to make sure that everything is keyed correctly. When finished, print the HTML Code and the browser output. Submit to your Instructor. Complete the Review Assignment on page 1. 37. Print and submit the HTML Code and the browser output. Complete all four (4) projects on pages 1. 38 – 1. 42. Print and submit the HTML Code and Browser output for each Project. Label each project appropriately!
