Success Criteria: To be successfully in Today’s lesson: You will develop your UNDERSTANDING of the Fashion and Textile Technology course and the Unit content. You will develop your UNDERSTANDING of the expectations between different levels of work to be produced in the course.

National 5/Higher: What's in the course? Ø 3 Units: 1. Item Development 2. Fashion and textiles Choices 3. Textile Technologies Ø A final practical activity And how is it assessed? Unit by Unit Approach: You will be assessed at the end of each unit with a straight forward pass or fail decision. After all your course work is completed by Christmas you will then be set the task to complete your Assignment.

National 5 Higher Textile Choices – Investigate factors affecting fashion/textile choices of others. Provide

National 5 Higher Textile Choices – Investigate factors affecting fashion/textile choices of others. Provide a solution to enable you to make or adapt a fashion/textile item for your chosen group. Textile Choices – Investigate and research issues which influence industry or consumers e. g. animal welfare, environmental issues, smart materials etc. No making all investigation. Textile Technologies – Select an appropriate pattern and fabric and produce a final outcome. Textile Technologies – Select an appropriate pattern, describe properties and characteristics of fabrics chosen and make a final outcome. Unit Content: Both Units will run side by side until October half term.

National 5 Textile Item Development – Plan the making which accounts for a fashion/textile

National 5 Textile Item Development – Plan the making which accounts for a fashion/textile trend working to a chosen brief, including a detailed working plan. Higher Unit Content: Textile Item Development – Explain how trends originated. Highlight the keys issues of the brief and plan solutions to these issues. Working to a brief plan and make a final fashion/textile accessory including a working plan. Will be completed after October half term until Christmas.

National 5 Practical Activity: You will be supplied with a small selection of briefs,

National 5 Practical Activity: You will be supplied with a small selection of briefs, you must use one as the basis for your Fashion & Textiles Technology practical activity. The practical activity is worth 80 marks. The marks contribute 100% of the overall mark for the Course assessment. The practical activity has three sections: Section 1 – Developing an idea for a detailed fashion/textile item will have 20 marks. Section 2 – Making the detailed fashion/textile item will have 50 marks. Section 3 – Evaluating the detailed fashion/textile item will have 10.

Higher Practical Activity: You will be supplied with a selection of briefs, you must chose one. The course assessment will consist of two inter-related components: Component 1 – Assignment – 60% of the mark Component 2 – practical activity 40% of the mark Total marks 100% of the marks Candidates will carry out one task – Designing, planning, making and evaluating a fashion/textile item. Which will produce evidence of both components.
