Paper 2, Question 5 – 40 Marks You will need to use the right tone, suitable for the required form whilst explaining your point of view. AO 5 & AO 6 Communicate clearly and imaginatively, adapting tone, style and register for different purposes and audiences. Ideas must be organised and structured. Paper 2, Question 5 is a question which requires you to write for a certain purpose and audience. It tests you on AO 5 and AO 6 which is your ability to: ‘Communicate clearly and imaginatively, adapting tone, style and register for different purposes and audiences. Ideas must be organised and structured. Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect. ’ It is worth 40 marks on the paper out of 80. Paper 2, Question 5 – Key Requirements You need to be TECHNICALLY ACCURATE This means you must: Ensure your sentences are correctly punctuated. Use a wide range of punctuation correctly. Employ a variety of sentence forms. Use Standard English. Check that spellings are correct. Use an extensive and ambitious vocabulary. Advice for Teachers Remind students that the form may be: • An article • A letter • A speech • A leaflet • A blog • An internet page • A radio script • Therefore, they need a quick “way in” to demonstrate the form and adapt tone to purpose.

• edsd This achieved a Level 3 for Content and Organisation: 13 marks. Communication is mostly successful with some use of paragraphs and a sustained attempt to control tone and register. Vocabulary chosen for effect takes the response just into Lower Level 3. It achieved a Level 3 for Technical Accuracy: 10 marks. A longer piece of writing would give the opportunity to demonstrate a greater variety of sentence forms, more sophisticated vocabulary and a greater range of punctuation Total = 23/40
