Over the next year you will work towards EIGHT units – both strands • • Introduction to media processes and technical skills Introduction to design and research skills Introduction to professional practice Critical and contextual awareness Audio Production Visual Production Interactive media Media Production project
Deadlines – course structure Each assignment will have a deadline These deadlines will be: • On the brief • On the website • On the boards in here • Will be text to you (along with a 1 week deadline reminder) There are NO excuses for not submitting any work – ALL work we ask you to do, be that big assignments or small task are ALL part of your course, will ALL be graded and ONE missed piece could result in a fail or a referral even if the rest of your work is to a high standard. Missed deadline will result in a fail grade and you will be referred! If you are referred you will be put on the college disciplinary system – maximum of two referrals in year 1
How your work is assessed – don’t worry too much about this now Units 1 – 7 will be graded as a PASS / FAIL / REERAL – Your feedback sheets will indicate to what level of PASS you are achieving (poor 7 - good 70 or excellent 90 and above) If you fail to submit on time or with ALL items of work you will fail and your work will be referred. You will get graded • Pass: 1 – 5 • Merit: 6 – 10 • Distinction: 11 – 15 By the end of Unit 7 (before your go into your FMP) you will have a grade out of 105 - The lowest is 7 – YOU DON’T WANT THAT Unit 8: Final Project will determine your grade for the year. This will be EXTERNALLY graded by the exam board as well as by us
Your work All submitted work must be uploaded to your Weebly sites – we do not accept hard copies of work Unless you pay for an upgrade your productions, video blogs, voice blogs and presentations will need To be uploaded to You. Tube and then embedded onto your page – so make sure you have a You. Tube account (more on this later) We will go over you’re your Weebly accounts later today and will be asking for your web address If you haven’t created an account, you will do so today Weekly blogs
Feedback • You will be given a link to a google drive account or One. Drive account – SAVE THIS LINK • This link will contain your work and yours only • This is where your feedback will be uploaded and each stage of assessment. • Please make sure you check this folder on a regular basis and we also mark sporadically throughout the unit and there may be vital information in there for you to improve. • This link could also be sent to your parents in order to keep them updated on your progress. This will be at parents discretion however • Once feedback is uploaded you will be given a date to when the next round of marking will take place. If this feedback is not there / completed by then it will not get marked again. We will make sure you are on top of all this. • MOST Feedback will be verbal during sessions however so make sure you note down what each teacher says.
The media world is a social place – to get recognised and to promote your work you will need social media sites You should have ’work’ sites on the following platforms and these should be on your Weebly page These sites will also help you research and gain feedback and poles on your work • Twitter – follow media / film industry • Instagram - follow media / film industry • Facebook • You. This forms part of your homework and self study time a week. • Make sure you have a tab for these viewings with notes and proof of skill development
