Introduction Patient Room Procedures The cleaning procedures for Patient Rooms are broken into 2 groups. 1. Occupied - Daily The room is occupied by a patient. 2. Occupied - Weekly The room is occupied by a patient. 3. Between Patients: The room has vacated, and will be prepared for the arrival of a new patient. Note: Special procedures including more intensive cleaning procedures may be required in isolation areas or in areas housing immuno compromised individuals.

Set Up Safety Signs: Place a wet floor sign outside and inside the door. Equipment: Be sure to have on proper safety equipment which means gloves and protective eyewear Only bring into the room the equipment needed, leave the cart outside the room.

Daily Cleaning q Patient Room Procedures Announce Yourself Always knock, politely announce yourself as housekeeping staff and ask if it is OK if the room is cleaned. q Wet Floor Signs Place wet floor signs in the hallway in front of the room entrance, and inside the room. q Enter room with supplies. Do not bring the cart into the room, carry in only the supplies you will need. q Empty Trash / Medical Waste Containers Always wear gloves. Put on new gloves when waste is properly sealed and placed in proper receptacles. Disinfect trash containers before replacing with fresh liners. q q Clean Bathrooms *See detailed procedures Check and Fill Dispensers. Towel dispensers, soap and sanitizer dispensers need to be filled. q High Dust all horizontal surfaces above your shoulder. q Clean High Touch Surfaces Use Century Q to wipe down all patient contact surfaces bedrails, tables, light switches, door knobs, window sills and all horizontal surfaces. Spot clean walls as needed. q Dust Mop Floors. Collect debris, scrape any items from the floor as needed. q Damp Mop Floors. Use a Century Q solution to mop floors.
