Mandate • Mandate Perform a Survey on the careers of the students who worked on the LHC experiments. Collect the data, analyse and interpret them and then produce a report. Aim is to have the report ready by the end of 2016. Similar studies have been done in the past on small samples for both LEP and LHC experiments. Our aim would be to make a very comprehensive survey, addressing the largest possible sample. 2
CERN Alumni • Definition of a CERN Alumnus (or student for Experiments) • EXP specific in our case? • Student should include under graduates, graduate students, Post. Docs? • Or use the same definition everywhere in the CERN Alumni programme? • How to integrate and coordinate with the CERN Alumni programme? • How do we get other non-LHC experiments on-board? 3
Obtaining the information • How can we obtain the information? Many possible ways, maybe worth using some of these in parallel. • Questionnaire • Use existing experiments’ database • Linked. In group • e-mail to Institute representatives • Networking event organised at CERN • Other social networks? • Other ideas? 4
Analysing the information • What do we do with the information collected? • Store it on the CERN Alumni database • Do we need also a separate experiments database? • Perform a statistical analysis • Analyse and understand differences, inconsistencies, bottlenecks encountered • How do we keep the database up-to-date? 5
Organisation • Getting organised… • Regular meetings? • Once a month or more frequent? • Where do we want to store preliminary information? • Web page, Twiki? • How do we share the work among ourselves? 6
