• First introduced in Exodus 17: 9 where he leads Israel’s defense against Amalek. • His name was originally Hoshea, but Moses called him Jehoshua (Numbers 13: 16). • Servant of Moses (Exodus 24: 13). • A young man (Exodus 33: 11). • One of the twelve spies, representing the tribe of Ephraim.
• Designated as the successor to Moses. Now Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses (Deuteronomy 34: 9).
