Introduction In this power point I will be talking about the stereotypical teenager and how some may be true and how some companies are trying to brainwash teenagers to buy their products. I will be talking about a Clearasil advert, waterloo road and educating the east end.
Clearasil This advert is aimed towards teenagers because a lot of them suffer from spots and acne. This is very common for teenagers so they will aim it mostly at them to try and sell as many products as possibly. In the advert there is a scene that shows a teenager looking at something on his laptop, as soon as him mum comes in she is shocked at what he is watching (possibly sexual). This is kind of a stereotype because teenagers may become sexually active due to puberty.
Factual (Educating the east end) Factual documentary's show some teenagers really act and dress, this is good because most adverts show stereotypical teenagers that always wear hoodies and talk back to their parents. But in this documentary it show teenagers messing around and being naughty. People enjoy to watch this because it is entertaining to watch people being naughty. Some teenagers may like to cause trouble and act badly toward other people, they might also like to have a laugh with their friends. This documentary kind of shows people how most teenagers act which is kind of similar to the stereotypical one. This is a screenshot from the clip. You can see a student getting dragged along the floor.
Fictional In fictional films such as waterloo road show stereotypes are shown all the time some of them are that teenagers are shown as lazy and disrespectful kids that don’t care about the consequences that they will have to face. A lot of stereotypes for teenagers are exaggerated, some of these are that teenagers are always getting into trouble and that they always talk back to adults. Teenagers are represented in a bad way and in the film all of the students don’t seem to care about their learning and just want to sit on their phones all day.
Conclusion Companies that focus on selling products to teenagers (such as Clearasil) seem to all use the same stereotypical teenager, this teenager consists of spots being smelly and lazy. They try to brainwash teenagers to buy these products by telling them that they will get spots and smell if they don’t use these products.
