INTRODUCTION
Health is the combination of your physical health, social health, and your mental/emotional health. Your health is something only you can control. Doctors, nurses, parents and friends may help you, but it is your ultimate responsibility to take care of yourself. The decisions and choices you make throughout your lifetime will positively or negatively impact your life and those around you. You need to take responsibility for your decisions and live with the outcomes of your decisions.
Health is a course that is required to graduate by the school district and the state of Missouri. We will cover a variety of wellness topics and health issues that you will be in direct contact with either now or in the future. The goal of this course is for you to take useable knowledge and apply it to your personal life.
Topics: Health Skills Mental and Emotional health (includes Nervous System) Social health Substance abuse Nutrition (includes Digestive System) Sexually Transmitted Diseases (includes Reproductive System) Infectious and noninfectious diseases First Aid / Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Includes Circulatory & Respiratory Systems)
At the beginning of each new unit you will be given a packet of materials to complete which includes lecture notes, diagrams, articles, video quizzes, and lesson reviews. You will need to bring this packet with you to class every day. You will be taking notes during the lecture. Located after each lecture section in your packet are lesson review questions that correspond to the lecture. You are to complete the lesson reviews as homework using the lecture notes and your health book. The completed packet becomes your study guide for the exam and is to be turned in on the day of the exam. Keep the completed study guides in a binder. These will come in handy to study for the Comprehensive End of Course Exam at the end of the semester. You will not be given a separate study guide for the End of Course Exam.
