Who is Boys Town? › One of the largest childcare organizations in the country › Over 90 years of helping children and families › Serves over 400, 000 children directly across a full continuum of care › Provides training & support to schools, parents, and other child care workers around the country
Boys Town Education Model › First and foremost a Teaching Model › Teaches students appropriate behaviors to replace inappropriate behaviors › Stresses positive relationships & interactions › Teaches students to manage their own behavior › Includes a motivation system, but helps student move off it as quickly as they can

Point Cards Students earn for positive behavior and lose for negative behavior › ½ Back-- Any time a student loses points for an inappropriate behavior, they earn ½ back if they work through it with an adult and practice the skill appropriately › There is a cost for negative behavior, but the goal is skill mastery, not punishment
Point Cards Continued › Points can be used to buy items or privileges from the school store › Privileges increase as skill mastery increases & they move through the levels
What Should I do at Home? › Know the skills that your student is working on and praise them for using them at home › Ask your student about their day and their progress and praise them when they are successful › Restrict privileges at home when your student earns a referral at school › Maintain open communication between home and school
